This is an old photograph from 1954 that shows an outdoor sign at the Davisville Station, which is the subway station closest to my home. The sign reads, ‘Canada’s First Subway’, and I thought this was interesting because I did not know that the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) built Canada’s first subway. The sign also says, ‘Transit Progress Is Civic Progress’, and I found this statement to be very significant as the Toronto subway became the busiest transit system in Canada. And it still continues to flourish and expand, acting as a convenient method of transportation for millions of riders. I personally used the subway very often during my high school years, thus the Toronto subway is a very meaningful part of my life.
